Modified driver Thomas Stinson showed once again Friday night at Southside Speedway why he is the defending track champion in the division.

Knowing he had to race in 3 30-lap races at the track that night, Stinson played the points game in the first race, ran a close second in the second race and then pulled it into victory lane in the final 30-lap segment. The finishes throughout the evening showcased his consistency and his run at a 6th Modified Championship for Stinson at the track.

“I knew that Mike (Rudy) had fresher tires in that first race, so we went points racing there,” Stinson said after picking up his 4th win of the season out of the 8 run this year. “Then we came close in the second race and finally pulled one out in the last one tonight.”

Stinson started in fourth going into the final race after placing second in both the first and second races. Stinson grabbed the lead from then race-leader Alan Purser in the mid stages of the race and moved on to take the checkers.

Chris Johnson came home in second with Mike Rudy placing third. Purser finished a season best 4th with Michael Johnson rounding out the top five.

Mike Rudy came back from an 11th place finish 2 weeks ago to take the checkers in the first 30-lap Modified segment. Chris Holyman picked up his first win since 2004 and his first win at Southside in the second 30-lap Modified main event.

Daniel Thomas picked up his second straight win and 3rd of the season in the U-Car division. Points leader David Kerns came from 8th starting position to finish second with Mike Chapman coming home third. Michael Hall and Jamie Hite rounded out the top five.

Mike Ganoe took top honors in the Street Stock 50-lap main event, holding off Gary Turner at the line for his second win of the season. Gary Turner came home in second with James Loving, James Groome and Justin Groome rounding out the top five.

Racing action continues next Friday night at Southside Speedway with a special Double Points night featuring action from the Late Models, Modifieds, Grand Stock, UCAR and Champ Kart divisions. For more information on the event, visit www.southsidespeedway.com
